Trucker’s Hitch

This knot is for tying down loads. It helps you create a pulley system to get your rope tighter.  Techniques vary – the best tie quickly, hold securely, and release quickly.

This version is one of my favorites because you can tie it without putting another knot in the rope.

My go-to has often been to tie a butterfly knot in the rope to use as the pulley. The advantage is the knot is very secure and easy to untie. It doesn’t weaken the rope much, unlike the overhand slipknot.

Here’s another version of the trucker’s hitch that has an interesting feature — by taking an extra turn with the working end you create a self-locking knot.
